At DC Dental Clinic in Wangaratta, we believe that every child in our Victorian community deserves a healthy, confident smile. We know that as a parent, keeping up with dental check-ups can sometimes feel like one more thing on a never-ending list.
However, thanks to the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), professional dental care is more accessible than ever. This Australian Government initiative provides up to $1,158 in basic dental services over a two-year period for eligible children. If you’ve been putting off a trip to the dentist, now is the perfect time to see how DC Dental Clinic can help.
Who Is Eligible for the CDBS?
Eligibility is determined by the Australian Government at the start of each calendar year. Your child may be eligible for these benefits if they meet the following criteria:
- Medicare Enrolment: They must be eligible for Medicare.
- Age: They are aged between 0 and 17 years at any point during the calendar year.
- Support Payments: The child, or a parent/guardian, receives a relevant government payment (such as Family Tax Benefit Part A) at any point in the calendar year.
Unsure if your child qualifies? Our team at DC Dental Clinic is here to help. Simply provide us with your Medicare details when booking, and we can confirm your eligibility and available balance in moments.
What Dental Services are Covered?
The $1,158 benefit cap allows us to provide a comprehensive range of preventative and restorative treatments to keep your child’s teeth in top shape. These include:
- Comprehensive Exams: Routine check-ups to catch issues early.
- X-rays: Essential for diagnosing decay between teeth.
- Scale and Cleans: Removing plaque build-up for healthy gums.
- Fissure Sealants: A protective coating for back teeth to prevent future cavities.
- Fillings and Extractions: Repairing or removing damaged teeth.
- Root Canal Treatment: Saving teeth that have been affected by deep infection.
Please note: Cosmetic procedures and orthodontic work (like braces) are generally not covered under the CDBS.
Understanding Your Benefit Cap
The CDBS operates within a “relevant two-year period.” This period begins the moment your child receives their first dental service under the scheme. You have two consecutive calendar years to use the $1,158 cap. If you don’t use the full amount in the first year, it carries over to the second year—as long as your child remains eligible.
